THE BIBLE
To understand who Jesus is, you need to first understand the Bible.
But it's such a big book and reading it will take a lot of time. Take time everyday to study the Bible, but for now we have a video for you to watch that will summarize who Jesus is, in less than seven minutes. Watch the video opposite. |
The message of the Bible (summarized)
|
GOD IS PERFECT AND WE ARE NOT.
God loves us so much that he wants us to spend eternity with Him.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." (The Bible - John 3:16)
THE PROBLEM is that perfection requires justice, and justice means that imperfection must be punished.
And none of us are perfect. "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (The Bible - Romans 3:23)
|
PUNISHMENT.For God to be just and loving, imperfection (sin) needs to be punished.
And as sinners (imperfect people), we all deserve that punishment.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (The Bible - Romans 6:23)
Now the word "gospel" means "good news", and us being punished in hell for our sins, that's NOT good news. No hope, no freedom, no love, definitely NOT good news.
But this is where Jesus, comes in, he is the good news.
|
JESUS.
God loves us so much that he came in flesh.
He was known as Jesus or the Son of God. He was perfect and as a result didn't need to be punished for sin. But he was tortured and killed for our sin. He took our sin and our punishment on himself. Why would someone pay the punishment for something they didn't do? Love; ultimate, perfect, sacrificial love. Because of Gods love for you, you don't need to pay the punishment for your sin anymore.
It has already been paid. You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. (The Bible -1John 3:5)
|
SO WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO ABOUT JESUS?
YOU HAVE A CHOICE TO MAKE.
God has given you a free-will and he will not force you to accept the price that He paid for your sin.
He now gives you a choice to make.
Either you: Reject the amazing sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross and therefore you take your punishment for your sins in hell forever. OR Trust that Jesus took your punishment for you, and be certain that you will go to heaven, causing you to start living your life for Him. What will you choose today? |
You won't get a chance after you die.
Your only chance to accept his gift is while you are still living. |
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE JESUS?
if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (The Bible - Romans 10:9)
To make Jesus lord means to submit to him; to make him your master.
We need to confess Jesus as Lord and believe he rose from the dead. In the Bible the word "believe" involves trust, so we need to trust Jesus. Some people say they are saved because they believe in Jesus, but to believe and not trust him is not belief at all. |
The Bible call us to "REPENT", this means to turn around,
change the way you think and believe.
You need to choose to follow Jesus. Make him and his ways priority number 1.
change the way you think and believe.
You need to choose to follow Jesus. Make him and his ways priority number 1.
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (The Bible -Mark 1:15)
WHAT NEXT?
If you've decided you want to trust and follow Jesus, it is important to connect with other like-minded people that have also chosen to follow Jesus.
This is what "church" is. It's not a building, it's believers getting together to learn more about Jesus, to encourage and to pray for each other and, to help each other on their journey of faith, following Jesus.
When you look for a group of believers to connect with, look for one that will personally encourage you, get to know you and, help you to share this good news (the gospel) with others. Now a group like this can be very hard to find, especially in a big organized setting like you would see in traditional church buildings. But connection is important so be prepared to seek a group that may be outside of traditional church, if needed. Such a group will become like your family, and encourage you, and help you to share the gospel. |
